Zorowatt vs Excel spreadsheets

Where Excel is strong, where it falls short, and what changes if you switch. Every number can be checked on their site.

Many battery studies are still done in a spreadsheet built in-house. It costs nothing extra and does exactly what you build into it. Zorowatt has the meter data import, the data checks, the tariffs, the bill rebuild, the dispatch and the report already built and tested.

Short answer
When to pick Excel
Stay with a spreadsheet if you do a study now and then, the tariff is simple and you want full control over every formula.
When to pick Zorowatt
Use Zorowatt when you do studies regularly: the 15-minute import and data checks, the tariff, the bill rebuild and the dispatch are already built, and every saving comes from the same bill engine, so a reviewer can follow it.

Facts about the other tool read on 2026-10-28 from the pages linked in each cell. Prices and features change; check the vendor's page before you rely on one.

This column describes a spreadsheet built in-house; it quotes no vendor. Ready-made battery models are sold on marketplaces such as Flevy, but their prices were seen only in search snippets (the pages returned HTTP 403), so they are not shown here.

In short

A spreadsheet is cheap and flexible, and for a one-off study with a simple tariff it may be all you need. The cost shows in the second and third study: the 35,040 quarter-hours, the daylight-saving days, the tariff and the bill check are rebuilt or re-checked each time. Zorowatt does that part the same way every time and leaves you the judgement.

How to switch

Save the meter-data sheet as CSV, or upload the original export from the portal.

  1. Upload the site's meter data to the free data checker or the Workspace: every assumption made reading the file is listed.
  2. Pick the site's tariff and enter the invoices: the bill check shows whether the baseline matches before anything is sized.
  3. Size the battery, compare it with your earlier study, and send the client the PDF report.

Questions

What does Zorowatt cost compared with a spreadsheet?
Zorowatt Starter is €49 a month for 3 site analyses, then €15 each; Pro is €149 a month with a white-label report and 3 seats. Your first site analysis is free, with no card.
What does a home-made spreadsheet usually get wrong?
Mostly the data: missing days, the doubled hour on the autumn daylight-saving day, kW columns read as kWh. Zorowatt's free meter data checker flags these on your file in the browser, with no account.
Can I get Zorowatt's numbers into Excel?
Yes. The Workspace exports the results as CSV, and the PDF report lists the tariff versions, the assumptions and the data-quality appendix so you can follow every number.
Is Zorowatt's result a guarantee?
No. Zorowatt gives feasibility estimates, not bankable guarantees or investment advice. Every saving it reports is computed by its own bill engine from the data you upload, so the arithmetic can be checked.

Looking for a Excel alternative?

Zorowatt runs in the browser, reads the site's own meter data and rebuilds its bill before it sizes anything.

Switching?

Bring a site you already studied: upload its meter data and bills, and set the result next to your old one.
