Zorowatt vs HOMER Grid

Where HOMER Grid is strong, where it falls short, and what changes if you switch. Every number can be checked on their site.

HOMER Grid (UL Solutions) designs grid-connected systems with PV, wind, batteries and EV charging to cut bills and peak demand, with a tariff database for North America. Zorowatt is a browser tool for European business sites that rebuilds the bill under sourced Dutch, German and Romanian tariffs before it sizes the battery. (homerenergy.com)

Short answer
When to pick HOMER Grid
Pick HOMER Grid if your sites are in North America, where its built-in tariff database applies, or if you need wind, EV charging and a least-cost system design in one model.
When to pick Zorowatt
Pick Zorowatt if your sites are in the Netherlands, Germany or Romania and you want the bill rebuilt from the meter data under a sourced tariff and checked against the invoices, at a published monthly price.

In short

HOMER Grid is the broader engineering model and has the North American tariff data. Zorowatt is narrower and built around European bills: check the meter data, rebuild the bill and set it against the invoices, then size the battery. For a US or Canadian portfolio HOMER Grid is the natural choice; for Dutch, German or Romanian sites Zorowatt starts from the tariff you would otherwise type in.

How to switch

Export the load as Green Button or a CSV with dates, or as HOMER's 8,760 hourly values: Zorowatt reads a year of values with no dates from 1 January.

  1. Upload the site's meter data to the free data checker or the Workspace: every assumption made reading the file is listed.
  2. Pick the site's tariff and enter the invoices: the bill check shows whether the baseline matches before anything is sized.
  3. Size the battery, compare it with your earlier study, and send the client the PDF report.

Questions

How much does HOMER Grid cost?
Its pricing page lists Standard Annual at $4,200 a year for one user and Standard Monthly at $665 a month ($7,980 a year), with Enterprise by quote and a free trial (homerenergy.com, read on 2026-10-28). Zorowatt Starter is €49 a month for 3 site analyses, then €15 each; Pro is €149 a month with a white-label report and 3 seats. Your first site analysis is free, with no card.
Does HOMER Grid have European tariffs?
Its product page describes a tariff database covering much of North America, Mexico and Canada and names no European one (read on 2026-10-28). Zorowatt ships versioned 2026 network tariffs for the Netherlands, Germany and Romania, each with its source and retrieval date, and a generic template for any other country.
Does Zorowatt optimise the whole system like HOMER Grid?
No. Zorowatt sizes the battery with a rule-based controller, the behaviour a real energy management system can reach, and shows the optimal (LP) dispatch for the chosen battery as the upper bound. It does not model wind turbines. A new load such as EV chargers can be added in connection-limit mode.
Can I check a HOMER Grid study in Zorowatt?
Yes. Upload the same site's meter data and bills: Zorowatt checks the data, rebuilds the bill and sizes the battery, and you set the two results side by side. The free meter data checker shows first whether the file is fit for sizing.

Looking for a HOMER Grid alternative?

Zorowatt runs in the browser, reads the site's own meter data and rebuilds its bill before it sizes anything.
